ANIMAL
RIGHTS ACTIVITISTS THREATEN TO BOYCOTT MR TREE
December 9
performance at 7 South to be marred by onslaught of
rotten tomatoes.
Associated Press
Dec 4, Denver-
It started as a simple celebration of the joys of
gardening. It may end in tragedy.
Controversy continues to rage over lyrics to the song,
"Livin' Easy (In the Yard)." Dozens of people have vowed to attend Mr.
Tree and the Wingnuts' December 9 performance at 7 South
for the sole purpose of throwing rotten fruit at the
band.
"They're nothing but a bunch of narrow-minded
fools", said a source who refused to be identified,
"Killing all those innocent squirrels."
The song in question includes the lines, "Get away
from my tomatoes, little squirrel, or I'll send you
straight to hell" and, "The squirrels eat my
tomatoes/I'd love to kill 'em all Lord, Lord."
But Soapy Argyle, composer of the song, says, "I
don't think I've ever killed a squirrel. It was just a
fantasy that came to me when I saw the devastation they
rained down on my tomato plants. You should have seen
these plants. They were six feet tall."
Shawn 4-On took a different stance altogether, "What
the &*$@ is wrong with these people? This has to be a
*#&%ing joke!"
This controversy comes at a time
when the Wingnuts felt they could finally relax. The
pornographic postcards that had plagued the band for most
of a year seem to have stopped. And now this. How will
Mr. Tree and the Wingnuts react to the stress? Come to
Seven South on Saturday December 9 to find out. And don't
forget to request a Christmas song. If the band can't
play your Christmas request, they'll buy you a beer.
